The monkey BMI tensor

The data is Tamara Kolda’s own demo tensor: 43 neurons × 200 time steps × 88 trials, recorded while a monkey moved a cursor to one of four targets. A separate array, angle, holds the target of each trial: -90, 0, 90 or 180.

The notebook downloads it once (about 5 MB) and fits it with its own NumPy code and with tensorly.

Nothing in any fit uses angle. It is kept aside to check, afterwards, whether the decomposition found the direction on its own.
